'One Nation, One Election': Govt. Aims to Build Consensus Before Introducing Bill
A panel headed by Ram Nath Kovind submitted its report on ONOP to the Union Cabinet.

BJP government on Wednesday cleared a proposal for “one nation, one election”, to bring down expenses and overcome logistical hurdles during the voting process.
The bill is likely to be introduced in the Parliament in the winter session. However, according to sources, the government is in no hurry or under pressure to introduce the “one nation, one poll” (ONOP) bill in the winter session itself.
A panel headed by Ram Nath Kovind submitted its report on ONOP to the Union Cabinet headed by Narendra Modi.
At the same time, the government appointed Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arjun Ram Meghwal and Kiren Rijiju to reach a consensus with the opposition parties.
Taking to X, PM Modi hailed the decision and complimented Ram Nath Kovind.
BJP believes that regular elections are hampering the growth of the country.
Opposition bloc has strongly condemned the move with several prominent leaders expressing displeasure over the bill. Leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Arvind Sawant, Derek O’Brien, and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, among others, have criticised BJP's move.
